Hypertriglyceridemia Study
Study Background
Triglycerides are fats carried in the blood that are stored and used for energy. High levels of triglycerides (Hypertriglyceridemia) can put people at an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death in Australia; responsible for causing around one in four of all deaths. Current treatment options for Hypertriglyceridemia involve lifestyle/diet modifications and medications such as statins or fibrates; however, many patients triglyceride levels remain elevated. This study is investigating the effect of a potential new medication designed to lower triglyceride levels in people with hypertriglyceridemia.
On this study participants will be randomly assigned to receive a single injection of either the new investigational treatment, or a placebo.
Study Details
The study would require you to come to the clinic approximately 12 times over 10 months. Visits will range between 30 minutes to 3 hours each time you come in. Over the course of the study, we will check your medical history, conduct physical examinations, perform an ECG, draw blood, and administer the treatment.
You will be reimbursed for your time and involvement in the research study.
Eligibility Criteria
- Aged between 18 – 70 years old
- Have elevated triglyceride levels (Hypertriglyceridemia)
- Fasting serum triglyceride of ≥300 mg/dL (≥3.38 mmol/L) at screening visit
- If being treated with lipid-lowering medication, have been on a stable dose for at least 6 weeks
