Chronic heart disease – Atherosclerosis study
Study Background
Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances (this build up is commonly referred to as plaque) in and on the artery walls (blood vessels). Plaque can cause arteries to narrow, blocking the flow of blood in the blood vessels.
Atherosclerosis is a common cause of heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular disease. Currently there are several treatments available, however they are not effective in decreasing the plaque volume.
The investigative treatment, YN001, contains a molecule that actively targets and delivers its active ingredient in the arterial plaque tissue. The molecule has anti-inflammatory properties and reduces the cholesterol levels in plaque, thereby decreasing the plaque volume.
