Full description
This study is testing a new potential topical treatment for atopic dermatitis (AD), a long-term skin condition that causes intense itching, redness, and irritation. AD is especially common in infants and children, affecting about 20% of kids, particularly in developed countries. The condition happens when the skin’s protective barrier is weakened, allowing bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) to cause infections that make the symptoms worse. This can take a toll on both physical health and quality of life.
Current treatments help manage the symptoms but come with limitations. Steroid creams and other common medications can have side effects if used for too long, and antibiotics, while sometimes needed, can lead to drug resistance, especially when treating S. aureus infections.
The investigational treatment is aiming to reduce inflammation, fight infection, sooth itching and help the skin heal.
