Coeliac Disease Research Study
Study Background
This is a research study investigating a potential new medication for Coeliac disease. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition where the ingestion of gluten causes gastrointestinal symptoms and inflammation of the small intestine. Currently, the only treatment option available for Coeliac disease is adhering to a strict gluten-free diet. However, adherence to the diet can be difficult and gluten exposure can sometimes be unavoidable.
This study is investigating a new potential treatment that will target the underlying immune processes of Coeliac disease.
In this study participants will randomly be assigned to receive either the new investigational medication, or a placebo.
Study Details
The study would require you to come to the clinic 14 times over 8 months. Visits will range between 30 minutes to 3 hours each time you come in. Over the course of the study, we will check your medical history, conduct physical examinations including endoscopies with biopsy, perform an ECG and chest x-ray, draw blood, and administer the treatment. Participants will also be required to undergo a gluten challenge. You will also be required to complete an e-diary over the course of the study.
You will be reimbursed for your time and involvement in the research study.
