Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease Study
Study Background
This study is investigating a potential new treatment that aims to lower hypertension (blood pressure that is too high) when used alongside standard treatments. Hypertension affects up to 45% of adults worldwide. It’s one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Despite the availability of many antihypertensive medications, approximately 50% of people taking these do not achieve healthy blood pressure levels. Because many people do not achieve adequate control with current treatments, there remains a significant unmet need for potential new and longer-acting treatment options.
On this study participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the new investigational treatment or a placebo.
Study Details
The study would require you to attend a minimum of 10 and maximum of 17 clinic visits over between 2.5 and 5 years. Visits will range between 1 hour and 3 hours each time you come in. At visits we will check your medical history, conduct physical examinations, perform ECGs, draw blood, and administer subcutaneous injections of either the investigational treatment or a placebo once every 6 months.
You will be reimbursed for your time and involvement in the research study.
Eligibility Criteria
- Aged 18 years or older with established cardiovascular disease OR 55 years or older with high risk for cardiovascular disease
- Have a diagnosis of hypertension
- Hypertension is currently treated with at least two antihypertensive medications
