Canopy Clinical Research Walks for Hope at Relay For Life Sutherland Shire
A particularly meaningful moment for the Canopy team came during the Survivors and Carers Lap, led by Christine Merlino, Canopy’s Sutherland Site Director and a cancer survivor. Her presence on the track embodied the reason Relay For Life exists—celebrating resilience, strength, and hope, while recognising the personal journeys behind the cause.
The Canopy team also brought colour, energy, and a sense of fun to the day during the Tutus and Tiaras Lap, proudly embracing the spirit of Relay For Life and the importance of community engagement in raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
Beyond the track, Canopy made a strong impact at the Health Hub, where team members dedicated significant time and effort throughout the event. Staff engaged with attendees, answered questions, distributed resources, and shared information about the role of clinical research in advancing cancer care. This collective effort reflected Canopy’s ongoing commitment to education, awareness, and meaningful community connection.
Throughout the day, the team also promoted upcoming oncology clinical trials, delivered through Canopy’s collaboration with Cancer Care Associates. This partnership focuses on expanding access to high‑quality clinical trials and investigational therapies, helping bring research opportunities closer to home for people living with cancer.
Individual dedication was also on full display, with Alexander “Xande” Bates completing almost half a marathon worth of laps in support of cancer research—an extraordinary effort that captured the determination and commitment shared across the Canopy team.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters and the dedication of everyone involved, Canopy Clinical Research exceeded its fundraising target of over $3,300+, contributing crucial funds to Cancer Council programs that support research, prevention, and patient support services.
Relay For Life Sutherland Shire was a powerful reminder that behind every advancement in cancer research are people—patients, survivors, families, and communities—walking forward together. Canopy Clinical Research is proud to support this cause and remains committed to improving outcomes through research, collaboration, and care.
